Inverkip and Wemyss Bay: Community ConversationAffordable out of School Childcare
Access to affordable childcare has been highlighted as barrier for families across Inverclyde, we are looking to discuss the following:
- What does affordable out of school childcare mean to you?
- What childcare do you currently use, if any?
- What is important to you if you do access childcare?
Would you be interested in
- a career in Out of School Childcare/Childminding/Breakfast Clubs or Parent Stay and Play?
If yes tell us what would prevent this from happening?
Whilst at the Inverkip Community Hub on the 31/01/25 attendees made the following comments:
- 'If it was cheaper, I would consider - good for kids to socialise'.
- 'Limited local choices.'
- 'School roll and catchment with expanding estates - can be issues with getting into local school.'
- 'Nursery needs to be more accommodating to working people (longer hours)'.
- 'No wrap around nursery provisions at Inverkip'.
- 'Issues having to move from one nursery to another.'
- 'Breakfast club for nursery children to help with parents getting to work on time. After school might help others too.'
- 'Local child care at reasonable cost to benefit going to work'.

It seems to be a lot of grandparents and childminders that do pick ups from school as there is no other provision apart from expensive private nursey
