Your Community

Recent engagement has highlighted the community members are unaware of how to be more involved in their local community in relation to having their say.

  • We want to hear what would be the best way to promote opportunities to you?
  • What would encourage you to be more involved
  • What barriers exist in relation to having your say!

Whilst at the Inverkip Community Hub on 31/01/2025 the following comments made by those in attendance:

      - Poor transport/lack of bus services between Inverkip, Gourock and Wemyss Bay. Attendees commented that although it is only a short distance between locations, residents need to get 2 buses (change in Greenock) to access local health provisions and green space including garden centre/Lunderston Bay.
      - Challenge getting GP appointments.
      - Concerns were raised around there being no bank or post office in Inverkip.

Group of 2 females and one male at the Inverkip Church Warm Spaces:
Noticeboards are well used to promote activities as well as online.
They need more time if they were to become more involved!
There are transport issues - the main road junction and Dunrod road both need to be resolved. Buses are only direct to Gourock a couple of times a day and make that journey too long to consider when you have to go via Greenock.
There is a lack of decorations at Christmas as well as floral displays in the village. There used to be a tree more centrally than the one at the Hub and the village doesn't have the same Christmas feeling as a result.
It's difficult for the youth organisations to recruit enough leaders and this has led to the local Guides unit disbanding.
There is no where in Inverkip to kick a ball that is free of charge; the previous football park was removed for the Hub to be built and there is now a small charge to use the astroturf and restrictions on when it is available.

Group of 2 females and one male at the Inverkip Church Warm Spaces:
The group feels they are kept well informed of what is going on in their area through community council meetings which are well advertised.
They feel younger people need to be attracted into volunteering as the age of volunteers is often over 60.
The Everything Inverkip Facebook page is very helpful.
Social Media has helped events, etc to be better promoted.

Don't like to go out at night and not very good with technology so something like a newsletter informing people about issues and outcomes from the Community Council

Would be good if the issues discussed at Community Council could be feedback via social media channels

Issues with buses getting round community as hard access facilities due to steep hills and also difficult getting to hospital and doctors appointments
