I think overall the area is safe but there are areas where particularly on dark nights I do not feel safe walking due to lighting or how visible you are to others. For example, the walking path between Park Avenue and Lyle Road does not feel safe as you are not visible to others due to the trees and bushes which are blocking visibility of people walking on this path.

The pavements are a state and dangerous for walking on. Parking on the pavement blocks access to prams and is now illegal but Inverclyde Council is not tackling this issue.

There are cars parking in Gourock Park - signs have helped that situation, but they are perhaps erected in the wrong place as you can't actually see them until you have already driven in. Lighting in the park is inadequate and vandals have burned some seating.

Not enough police presence as a deterrent. I've reported to the wardens who then said to call the police, but no-one followed this up.
I like the new lighting in Battery Park.
Potholes are awful in local area.

Groups of young people can be intimidating
Pavement on Shore Street has lots of rotting branches and leaves. It hasn't been swept for ages (water side of street). It can be slippy.

Violent knife crime seems to be increasing with yet another stabbing locally in the middle of the day and yet we never see any police in the area. (St John's Warm Space 17/02/25) PF

We have problems with people parking on double yellow lines and it blocks cars from getting into street we have already approached our Councillor but have been told it can take up to 2 years which does not help us. This is a big safety concern for us. (St John's Warm Space 17/02/25) PF
