Greenock South and Southwest Community ConversationAffordable out of School Childcare
Access to affordable childcare has been highlighted as barrier for families across Inverclyde, we are looking to discuss the following:
- What does affordable out of school childcare mean to you?
- What childcare do you currently use, if any?
- What is important to you if you do access childcare?
Would you be interested in
- a career in Out of School Childcare/Childminding/Breakfast Clubs or Parent Stay and Play?
If yes tell us what would prevent this from happening?
Responses taken from EAC family event at Ravenscraig
more toddlers in braeside/ Larkfield area,
pay and go schemes should be more available, especially sports (monthly direct debits do not benefit my family)
affordable sports
off-peak pricing/ memberships/ discounts should be considered for soft plays and activities (it is always very quiet during the week but costings are too expensive for families with more than one child)
i have no family to help so any childcare would help significantly
our family work shifts to accommodate childcare needs
Branchton offer so much but is too far away, this model should be replicated throughout other areas to offer the same kinds of services
DWP do not support term time workers and i am required to look for additional work but unable to sustain childcare for the additional hours
i do not need structured childcare but would like more activities available after school
more stay and plays
community resources should be better used
it would need to be convenient and not expensive
being able to work an average wage job without being out of pocket (childcare is very expensive)
having a choice of childcare and afterschool and breakfast clubs (not all schools do this)
