I asked young people from Clydeview Academy and these were their results:
Biggest concerns in their community for young people at the moment – drug users and immigrants. As the rise is clear and young people have been approached or made to feel uncomfortable in the community from these groups.
Specific Spaces/areas that young people have a concern about:
• Romanian’s next to Eddies Spar shop in Greenock – many community concerns about this group specifically from YP and community members.
• Facility 3 is an area of concern for young people
• Lindoch street
• Cathcart Street
• Kilblain Street Bus stop area
Reporting safety Concerns, young people will report to:
Parent, youth worker or family.
Youth Worker also let them know about Fearless.org – this needs to be advertised and promoted more.
Whilst at Cargill Centre on the 27/02/2025 an attendee gave the following feedback:
"I don't go out at night. I travel into the town centre by bus during the day. I am concerned about the amount of graffiti in the town now. I would not know how to report any concerns."
Whilst at the Cargill Centre café on the 24/02/2025 an attendee made the following comments:
- 'Greenock centre is unpleasant in the evening. I don't know what to suggest to improve as it's a bigger social problem.'
Mount Kirk Feedback 14/02/2025
- I think the speed of traffic is an issue, there should be more traffic measures in the area. I know to contact Inverclyde Council Road department.
- I don’t particularly feel safe walking at night. I think community service is not a deterrent, and I think offenders need to be punished further.
- No issues with safety at the moment.
Feedback from participant at Recovery Cafe in Auchmountain Hall:
I feel safe in terms of violence and drugs, but crossing the road can be dangerous. There's not enough pedestrian crossings in residential areas and nobody stops to let you cross when there are no traffic lights.
We need more traffic lights or speed bumps in residential areas to save lives.
Traffic is far too fast on Regent Street and Bow Road/Inverkip Road.
There are good traffic calming measures in Edinburgh that Inverclyde could look at.
I don't know who to report concerns to, or whether I would report them if I did know who to.

I feel people just ignore the safety concerns in this town, I don't think people know where to submit concerns.
Parklea Branching Out feedback 23.01.2025
Anywhere can be dangerous in the winter as the evenings are long and dark. The Bus services stop really early also which can stop people from going out.
Cycle tracks can be poorly lit, the so the young people like to gather and drink. However, they are harmless but people can be wary of these areas. I would call the police, i wouldn't call the community wardens, as they take a hard time from the young people in the area. Again, social media can be used to inform people.
Parklea Branching Out Feedback 23.01.2025
I live in a sheltered housing community and it feels safe and secure, I also have nice neighbours, so no concerns at all.

Install CCTV in more public areas.
Increase number of taxis and public transport to stop people hanging around.

At the bottom of Bow Road there should be traffic lights or a system for safer corssing, it is currently unsafe to cross.
Fix Weir Street paths and provide more lighting.
Kestrel Crescent has bad rodents, is very unsafe and loads of fly tipping.
