At Auchmountain Community Resource Centre 3/12/2024
Drugs are a huge problem and the age of substance misuse has dropped to even primary school level. Drugs must be talked about more efficiently in each small local community and schools.
There should be an increase in the mobile CCTV vans in all areas where dealing is known. This will provide the police essential reports from the council.
At Belville Gardens Community Hub on the 06/12/2024 an attendee gave the following feedback:
- It would seem from the media that the town may be the most unsafe area.
- Alcohol and drugs impact the local area.
- Meaningful activities for individuals etc may be a way of gradually having a positive impact on addiction/illness.
At the Belville Gardens Community Hub on the 06/12/2024 an attendee gave the following feedback:
- The community doesn't have faith in most authority figures.
- Be more open to discussion and help alleviate the worse off areas.
Whilst attending the Belville Gardens Community Hub on the 06/12/2024, attendees raised the following community safety concerns:
- It was raised that the reservoirs of Inverclyde are not well kept and maintained.
- Several attendees raised concerns around pavements being not well maintained which could increase the chances of people having trips and falls in particular those who are visually impaired or have mobility issues.
- There needs to be more ‘out of the box’ thinking between multi-agencies to solve local issues and concerns.
Whilst engaging with the Youth Community Council on the 05/12/2024 the following community safety issues were raised:
Poor lighting and safety concerns were raised around the Greenock Bus Station. Young people said they felt intimidated using the bus stops after attending the I-Youth Zone. Several attendees said that recently big groups of what they described as ‘neds’ hang around the area, cause damage to bus stops and issues at the nearby B&M Stores. They requested that there is more presence in the area from the Police and Community Warden services in the evening in particular (especially when there are youth work services being run at the I-Youth Zone in Greenock).
Whilst at City Church on the 04/12/2024 attendees raised concerns around the following:
- Lack of changing facilities for babies in Greenock Town Centre.
- Lack of suitable accommodation larger families across Inverclyde.
- Local parks being neglected across the East and Central area. Vandalism, smashed bottles and large crowd of people hanging around. Smaller parks that have been created as part of new housing developments are not suitable for the new tenants and now they are hubs for anti-social behaviour.
- There was a feeling that people in Inverclyde are missing out due to digital inequalities.
- GP surgeries need to be more accessible for those who have literacy and numeracy issues.
- A lot of negative feedback about the cycle paths in the town centre that they are under used and not suitable to the needs for communities.
- A lot of basic services have now moved out of Inverclyde meaning people need to travel out the area. Cost implications.
Whilst at Craigend on 05/12/2024 attendees raised concerns around the following:
- An increase in dog fouling around Quarriers Street.
- Cars driving at excessive speed on Sinclair Street.
Whilst at an engagement event at the City Church on the 03/12/2024 an attendee raised a concern around there being an increase in fly tipping (including a mattress) occurring outside housing blocks which they believed could be a potential fire risk/trip hazard.
I dont go out that much at night, i dont fancy it due to safety concerns. There have been lots of issues in area so i prefer daylight BT
