Kilmacolm and Quarriers Village Community ConversationAffordable out of School Childcare
Access to affordable childcare has been highlighted as barrier for families across Inverclyde, we are looking to discuss the following:
- What does affordable out of school childcare mean to you?
- What childcare do you currently use, if any?
- What is important to you if you do access childcare?
Would you be interested in
- a career in Out of School Childcare/Childminding/Breakfast Clubs or Parent Stay and Play?
If yes tell us what would prevent this from happening?

I would be interested in using before and after school childcare in the future but currently do not use any. I would be more interested in using parent stay and play clubs too.

As an older person childcare is not personally relevant to me. However, there are lots of children in the village, including a children's residential care home, so it would be to see provision made for them and their families in Quarriers. Since the closure of Carsemeadow Nursery in 2006 there is no provision for childcare in Quarrier's and although the land it occupied was partially cleared several years ago, it has not been developed in any way since. There is no pre 5 or primary childcare in the village, they have to travel to Kilmacolm. Although, there is a nice park in the village it could be improved and extended and the children's cycle track desperately needs to have the lines of the track re-painted.

Out of school care is not a requirement at the moment but not to say we won't need it in the future. After school activities would be more of an interest.
We don't use childcare at the moment but will be using the local nursery in Kilmacolm.

We believe that affordable childcare is important but we are not looking for a career in it. It is important for parents / single parents but the costs for it are too high at the moment.
Breakfast clubs are important but think there should be some sort of charge for it to run.

The above does not apply to me but I have worked in our of school care and think this is an amazing opportunity to help working parents. My grandchildren use the breakfast club in the local school in Kilmacolm. This helps my daughter and son in law to have a better work balance.

My children are all grown up and I don't have any grandchildren.
