Your Community

Recent engagement has highlighted the community members are unaware of how to be more involved in their local community in relation to having their say.

    - My thoughts have been reflected in the 'Community Safety' section and i know the routes to take to have a say within the community.

The best promotional methods for me would be through post or social media.

Also, until recently we had a bus service which ran from Kilmacolm through Quarriers and on to Johnstone train station. It was an hourly bus service run by McGill's number 1 or 1A. A few weeks ago, Johnstone and area community transport began running a service from Johnstone train station to Quarrier's - number 9. The feedback on this new service has been very positive. However, as soon as this new number 9 bus service began, McGill's stopped running their 1 and 1A service through Quarrier's. These services are still in operation but no longer include Quarrier's this means that there is now no direct bus between Quarrier's and Kilmacolm, even though the Mcgill's service ran for many years. I am unable to drive and used the McGill's 1 and 1A to and from Kilmacolm - as did my husband. To travel by bus from Quarrier's to Kilmacolm you now need to get another bus from Bridge of Weir to Kilmacolm.

Quarrier's village is a lovely place to live but better use of places like Sommerville hall could make such a difference in the community. At the moment, the hall is underused and could be a great venue for a host of community events such as fitness classes like yoga, dance, and music classes, children's parties, crafts, bridge etc. The 3 sisters café which was situated downstairs in Sommerville Hall is greatly missed by villagers and visitors alike because the 3 sisters still use the kitchen facilities in the building but closed their café, no one can re-open the café, so it is lying empty. The café was always busy and a great resource for our community and neighbouring villages and provided employment in the community. It was also a great meeting place. Both the lower and upper floor of Sommerville Hall provide a great potential and could be utilised so much better than at present.

I believe the best promotion for myself would be through social media.

Inverclyde Council could do more for Kilmacolm and Quarriers as we feel there is not enough done here.
We as a group of retired ladies and were all brought up in Kilmacolm and would like to see more input - ages 65 upwards.

Whilst at the Cargill Centre café on the 27/02/2025 attendees made the following comments:
                - More provisions/employment opportunities in Inverclyde for both young people and adults with ASN.
                - There should be a club or group for young people with autism to meet people with similar ASN.

Continue with range of feedback options digital, face to face and mail / leaflet drops.
Focus on specific areas of public interest / concern with a view to clarifying distinct outcomes.

I think there should be meetings for the local people in Kilmacolm, this would be a good starting point to see how people feel and if they would like to be involved in the above.

I think leaflets and council staff should promote opportunities in community centres and community cafes.
