Port Glasgow Community ConversationAffordable out of School Childcare
Access to affordable childcare has been highlighted as barrier for families across Inverclyde, we are looking to discuss the following:
- What does affordable out of school childcare mean to you?
- What childcare do you currently use, if any?
- What is important to you if you do access childcare?
Would you be interested in
- a career in Out of School Childcare/Childminding/Breakfast Clubs or Parent Stay and Play?
If yes tell us what would prevent this from happening?
During the summer it was an issue
Research on the negative consequences of preschool childcare 8am -6pm, 5 days per week to accomodate working parents is clear yet we keep doing it
Staffing ratios are difficult to meet due to costs

The care homes can get staff neither can creche/childcare. cost of employment is too high and lack of funding BS

there is nothing at the top of Port Glasgow and we need to travel to activities, i do not drive
private nurseries are very expensive, i am working to be out of pocket but have no friends or family to help
there is nothing to support mums going back to work if your child is under 3, its just not financially beneficial
it is more affordable for me to give up work and look after my children than send them to private childminders or nurseries
childminders that have availability are not flexible enough for my family and those who do are unavailable
2 year nursery placements should be made available for full time workers as an incentive to continue work
