Affordable out of School Childcare

Access to affordable childcare has been highlighted as barrier for families across Inverclyde, we are looking to discuss the following:

  • What does affordable out of school childcare mean to you?
  • What childcare do you currently use, if any?
  • What is important to you if you do access childcare?

Would you be interested in

  • a career in Out of School Childcare/Childminding/Breakfast Clubs or Parent Stay and Play?

If yes tell us what would prevent this from happening?

    - Affordable out of school childcare, offers disadvantaged children a chance to have somewhere to go. I believe after school care is very worthwhile.

    - My own family don't use it, but have family members who see the benefit.

      - Affordable out of school childcare is vital for families. Parents that work need childcare before and after school. This is a lot of money and having somewhere affordable and safe for their children would benefit them financially. I have worked in schools I have seen the benefits of breakfast clubs where children are fed and enjoy socialising in a safe environment with their friends.

        - Affordable childcare should be used for low income families, so that they can work and not have to pay a huge amount of money.

          - There should be discounts for siblings and free for parents who do not work
          - Ideally should be before and after school care for every school in Inverclyde
          - I do not use it currently as I do not need it, however, once my youngest child goes to school I would use it to enable me to go to work full time.

**Responses from Port Glasgow Community Council - 25th November 2024**
There should be more breakfast clubs available for children with no expense to parents. It should include a variety of different breakfasts for schools kids.
In Port Glasgow there should be more access to childcare for all adults that require it.

Childcare should be a low cost as it would allow my kids to work more instead of having to rely on grandparents who have mobility issues.

employers are under pressure for NI rises and costs. these are passed on and parents cant afford the cost. Tax and NI costs are huge and putting the childcare system under pressure. brexit costs also are mounting and putting pressure on employers due to costs and lack of staff that are suitable.

Childcare problems are worse when you have children of different ages with transport to different age appropriate venues

Childcare prospects for those that are working are scary during the holiday periods.
