Your Community

Recent engagement has highlighted the community members are unaware of how to be more involved in their local community in relation to having their say.

  • We want to hear what would be the best way to promote opportunities to you?
  • What would encourage you to be more involved
  • What barriers exist in relation to having your say!

    - The best way to promote opportunities to myself would be through the telegraph, the church and leaflets through doors.

I think the best way to promote opportunities would be through social media and the Telegraph.

To encourage others to get involved in the community you would need to show the community how it will benefit it and how it will make a difference.

One of the barriers for myself, is that no one knows where to go or how to go about knowing what's on in the community there should be a platform for all to use so it is centralised.

I believe there should be more events to involve children and families such as fun days and cooking classes or even more events like the comet festival.

The amount of scrap cars on Ardgowan Street (factory road) is ridiculous. A lot of money was spent on a cycle lane and often it is covered in broken glass a people are just smashing the car windows. Sometimes it's the whole road on both sides that is filled with these cars, it's ridiculous

**Responses from Port Glasgow Community Council - 25th November 2024**
          1. There should be more engagement across Port Glasgow such as leaflet drops to inform residents about classes, projects, and social nights.
          2. There should be more engagement with schools to raise awareness of council projects.
          3. There should be an incentive for projects
4.This platform is the right way forward however, it must be utilised more.

I am currently the chairperson of my local TARA and for 35 years I have been involved with various community groups, this includes parent councils, community councils, and education groups which is often encouraged to join. A newcomer might encourage others to join however, often i feel when you get involved, local community leaders are not interested in what you have to say

It is difficult to get involved when people are in poverty.

Even though you report various issues to the relevant departments they are very seldom acted upon.
It's a constant battle trying to get problems solved.
