Provision of warm spaceDescription
Provision of 'Soup and Blether' for the elderly every Friday
Dec 24 - Mar 25
£2,600
Warm Spaces Lunch Club at The Torpedo Factory is a welcoming and supportive community resource for some of our most vulnerable and elderly citizens, but also provides a support to kinship and friends in the community. This small investment will have a huge impact on many who live alone or experience isolation and lonliness. While many rely on online support and networking within the broader challeng of mental health, a physical space and place which welcomes all and offers free and welcome support is desperately needed.
As temperatures drop and the challenges of rising living costs continue to affect many in our community, initiatives like the Warm Spaces Lunch Club at the Torpedo Factory are more vital than ever. This weekly event provides a welcoming, heated environment where vulnerable people can find comfort, friendship, a sense of belonging and social connections that are essential for wellbeing.
The Torpedo Factory Warm Spaces Lunch Club serves as a very popular gathering place by offering warm meals and a space to meet others and find companionship. This well attended initiative addresses both immediate needs and the broader issue of social isolation.
I wholeheartedly support the Warm Spaces Lunch Club at The Torpedo Factory and commend the organizers for their commitment and kindness within our community. My elderly neighbour also supports the Torpedo Factory club but does not have any ability to make comments online; an issue I think will be the case for many people.
The Factory Club has been doing WHF since it started and has been well used by people of all ages, children with parents, pensioners, disabled persons who used these facilities every week, we have a lovely warm atmosphere within the club and everyone who goes there enjoy meeting other people, meeting new friends, having a game of bingo, play your cards with food parcels being given as prizes, there is also snooker, darts available free. It would be great loss to the Gourock community and surrounding areas of greenock if we were to lose this service. Home made soup, toasties and desserts are all appreciated by all who come along, please keep this going.
This club provide a wonderful experience for the very many people who take advantage of the lunches. It's more than soup. Every Friday it's a choice of soup. Sandwiches. Tea/ coffee and often cakes and biscuits. Additionally attendees can play a whole range of activities during the afternoon. The organisers are a credit to themselves and the Factory Club. Friendliness and good humour every time.
I have attended the soup kitchen and it was such a lovely setting. Helpers were friendly and the soup and toasties are good. The soup choice was amazing.
What adds to the kitchen is the food bank especially for people who can’t afford to buy food.
It’s a nice opportunity for people to have a chat get some food and have a nice afternoon out. I hope to see this continue.

The Torpedo Factory Club is a fantastic venue for the Warm Hand of Friendship. There's always a great atmosphere and our most vulnerable and elderly citizens really enjoy their weekly get together. It's not just about the wonderful food on offer but the friendly chat, free raffle and game of bingo.
My 90 year old mum loves going there and has really missed seeing all her friends over the summer months.
